Itinerary

HOBART > STRAHAN

We start our journey into the Western Wilds in the stunning Mt Field NP, with its wonderful Russell Falls and some of the tallest trees in the world. Located within the World Heritage Area, we will experience Lake St Clair, rainforests, and magnificent views along the way as we pass through Franklin-Gordon National Park. We stop briefly at the quirky and fascinating mining area of Queenstown, offering a taste of Tasmania’s pioneering history.

before settling in the picturesque harbor town of Strahan. Located in Macquarie Harbour, this beautiful town has a wicked history, and here our guides know the best places to look for the elusive platypus!

Night: Straham

WILD WEST COAST

We’ll take you to the Tarkine Rainforest to hike to Tasmania’s tallest waterfall, Montezuma Falls, then explore the Henty Sand Dunes. Or today you can choose to take the optional Gordon River Cruise (own expense). Later we visit the wild and rugged Ocean Beach and breathe in the freshest air in the world, before returning for our final night in historic Strahan.

Night: Straham

CRADLE MOUNTAIN > LAUNCESTON

Here it is! Tasmania’s big ticket and every hiker’s dream: Cradle Mountain NP. Will you head up to the Marion lookout or opt to wander around glacier-carved Dove Lake? Hopefully today, we may see a wombat or two at Ronny Creek. We will then visit Sheffield, the city of murals, before arriving in one of Australia’s oldest cities, Launceston.

Night: Launceston

LAUNCESTON > BICHENO

Explore Launceston’s beautiful Cataract Gorge before taking a scenic drive to the east coast and exploring Tasmania’s best beaches, including the turquoise waters of the Bay of Fires. Here we take our time to enjoy the stunning coastal scenery before heading down to the tranquil township of Bicheno, where tonight you may wish to take the optional Little Penguin Guided Tour (own expense).

Overnight: Bicheno

FREYCINET NATIONAL PARK > HOBART

An early start means we’re the first to Wineglass Bay, beating the crowds and the heat. Relax on the secluded beach or choose the more challenging climb of Mount Amos or a walk along the beach. We’ll enjoy phenomenal views from the Cape Tourville Lighthouse before following the Great Eastern Drive to Hobart.

How active is this tour?

Hiking in Tasmania is world class, and we’ve selected beautiful walking experiences for our guests (we include many of Tasmania’s 60 Great Short Walks).

Some walks are guided, while others are unguided (free walk).

In many places you can choose between an easier or a more advanced option.

Essentially, you can make this as active or easy as you like; all tours are optional and range from 20 minutes to 4 hours.
